Melinda Rice loves stories. Her 2013 album Before the Color Blue was written for string quartet, and her 2015 album Let Someone In is a folk-inspired journey with voice including original songs and traditional.
She performs on violin with the house band at the Craft in America study center and on viola with the Isaura String Quartet. She has premiered and performed music with wild Up!, the Vinny Golia Large Ensemble, Homesick Elephant, a few orchestras, and has premiered much of Kraig Grady’s music for violin/string quartet. Her compositions and arrangements of folksong have been presented by the Hammer Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland, ArtShare, Microfest, and SASSAS.
Melinda is on the teaching artist faculty at The Harmony Project. She is a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts, studied at Sarah Lawrence College, and the California Institute of the Arts. She is currently working on the libretto to an opera, Bonnie & Clyde, with Claudia Doderer and composer/husband Andrew McIntosh.
